Day 4: “Om Shri Sai Shesha Saine Namaha”

Shirdi Sai Ashtotramala – Meaning, Meditation and Miracle

Day 4: “Om Shri Sai Shesha Saine Namaha”

Meaning:

Humble salutations to Shri Sai, the Brahman, who is the embodiment of the Lord Vishnu resting on Aadhi Sesha, the great serpent.

Meditation:

Baba showed universal affection for all creatures including serpents and scorpions.  He advised Hemadpant and others “God lives in all creatures, whether they be serpents or scorpions. He is the great wire puller of the world, and all beings serpents, scorpions etc. obey His command”. (Shri Sai Satcharita Ch.: 22).

Shama came running to Baba after a snake bite. Baba on seeing Shama got enraged and said “Oh vile Bhaturdya (Priest) do not climb up. Beware if you do so and then roared “Go, Get Away, Come Down!”! Then Baba said to Shama “Don’t be afraid, don’t care a jot (a small amount). The merciful fakir will save you, go and sit quiet at home, don’t go out, believe in Me, and remain fearless and have no anxiety”. Shama’s life was saved. (Shri Sai Satcharita Ch. 23).

Bala Saheb Mirkar was leaving on a tour to Chitali, and came seeking the blessings of Baba. Baba said “Do you know the ‘Lamba Baba (long gentleman) viz., serpent?” And then, closing the left fist He brought it under the right elbow and moving His left arm like the hood of a serpent and said “He is so terrible but what can he do to the children of Dwarkamai! When the Dwarkamai (its presiding Deity) protects what can the Serpent do?” The same night when Bala Saheb was sitting in the Maruthi Temple at Chitali, a Snake was sitting on uparani (upper dhoti) by his side and hissing. His peon noticed it, raised the alarm and killed the snake. (Shri Sai Satcharita Ch. 23).

When an astrologer told Bapusaheb Buti that there was danger to his life on that day. He was restless. Baba said to Bapusaheb, “Let us see, how death kills”. The same evening Bapusaheb came across a snake. Strangely, the snake disappeared. Bapusaheb remembered Baba’s words of protection. (Shri Sai Satcharita- ch. 22).

Amir Shakkar was staying in Chavadi as ordered by Baba and got his cure from chronic rheumatism. One day Baba came to Chavadi and stayed there.  At midnight Baba raised an alarm and a coiled snake was found below Amir’s pillow and was killed. (Shri Sai Satcharita- ch: 22).

He was so simple and kind, but even snakes understood who He was. He is Shesha Saine.
