Shirdi
Sai Ashtotramala –Meaning, Meditation and Miracle
Day -74. “Om Shri Sai Sarva Bhara Bhrute Namaha.”
Meaning:
Humble salutation to Him, who takes
upon all burdens of devotees on Himself. (Shirdi Sai Trust).
Meditation:
On
seeing Bhishma Pithamaha, His own Guru Dhronacharya, Kings, the large number of
his own kith and kin and the great
expanse of armies ready to fight in the battle field of Kurukshetra, Arjun’s
heart sank with the crushing weight of grief and despair. The great warrior of
Pandavas, threw his bow and arrow and told Krishna,” Hey Paranthama, I am
crushed by the weight of guilt and grief. I do not want to raise my bow against
them. I can’t fight”. The Bhagwan gave Bhagvad Gita, not only for Arjun but to the
whole world, considered as one of the greatest source of knowledge and
revelation for the mankind. Bhagwan Krishna summarised the
purpose of life in beautiful words saying,
“Karamanyavadhikarasthe Maa Phaleshu Kadachana
Maa Karma Phala Hetur Bhurma Te Sangostvakarmani”-i
“You have the right to work
only
but never to its fruits.
Let not the fruits of action
be your motive.
Nor
let your attachment be to inaction.”
These 11 words in Sanskrit contain the essence of all realisation. The moment one
is able to really live in total identification with Brahmam, God, Guru, He is
able to live a very lovely life, going through the ups downs, success and
disappointment experiencing them but not really affected by them. He is like
the clear drop of water on the leaf of the lotus shining and reflecting the
Sun, containing the image of Sun within itself, retaining its shape but not sticking to the leaf. It is light
without its own weight ready to roll off.
The
weight of guilt and grief in the heart of Dhananjaya was removed. He rose again
to fight leaving the fruits to Lord. The Brahmam, God, or Guru can absorb all
our burden provided we say truly, “ I live. I aspire. I Act. Let your will
happen, I leave the results, fruits in Your hands”.
One Mrs Khaparde the wife of Mr. Dadhasaheb Khaparde of Amravathi, was
staying in Shirdi with her son for some days. One day the son got high fever,
which further developed into Bubonic Plague. The Mother was frightened and felt
most uneasy. She thought of leaving the place for Amravati, and went near Baba
in the evening, when He was coming near the Wada ( now Samadhi Mandir).in His
evening rounds for asking His permission. She informed Him in a trembling tone,
that her dear young son was down with Plague. Baba spoke kindly and softly to
her, saying that the sky is beset with clouds; but they will disperse and pass
off and everything will be smooth and clear. So saying He lifted up His Kafni
upto the waist and showed to all present, four fully developed bubos, as big as
Eggs and added, “ See, how I have to suffer for My devotees, their difficulties
are Mine”. Seeing this unique and extraordinary deed ( Leela), the people were
convinced. As to how the saints suffer pains for their devotees. The heart of
the saint is softer than wax, it is soft in and out as butter. They love their
devotees without any gain, and regard them as their true relatives. (Shri
Saisatcharita- Ch:7.)
The Pilgrim to Shirdi never feels the burden of life. He or she enjoys
the life itself as a pilgrimage. Because the burden has already been taken up
by the One who is truly Sarva
Bhara Bhrute.
